Egypt intends to allocate approximately $11 billion toward new petrochemical projects, which will be developed in next five-year period to enhance domestic production capabilities and strengthen its industrial sector. According to the report, Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM) announced this investment program at its general assembly meeting.

The plan includes the development of 10 major petrochemical projects between 2026 and 2030. The projects will boost national production capacity while enabling petrochemical-dependent industries to expand their operations. Officials said that the efforts are designed to localize manufacturing of over 20 products of petrochemicals that are imported at present.

They are projects likely to produce a combined capacity of around 7.5 million tonnes of petrochemical products. These upcoming developments will establish soda ash and silicon derivative facilities in New Alamein and methanol derivative plants in Damietta and various production and supply chain facilities throughout Alexandria.

Officials explained that the expansion project will reduce Egypt’s dependence on imported petrochemical materials while improving the country’s capacity to sell value-added products in global markets. The initiative will also help create jobs and in stimulating growth across several industrial sectors.

The existing facilities of ECHEM operated their production processes with high efficiency according to their reported performance results. The company operated its petrochemical plants in 2025 to produce approximately 4.2 million tonnes of products, which they exported to more than 50 countries.

The new program will help Egypt to complete its petrochemical sector development goals, which will increase its market presence in both regional and international markets.
