Background

Sohar International once again demonstrated its commitment to the development of Oman’s energy industry and sustainable economic growth with the organization of a joint symposium, “Oman’s Energy Industry in Rethatched Gulf: Fueling Economic Growth and Investments.”

The symposium was organized in conjunction with the Oman Energy Association, where key executives and experts from both financial and energy industries gathered to talk about the changes within the industry and new investments.

The main topic of discussion during the symposium was the role of the energy sector in driving GDP growth and improving the competitiveness of the country. Participants called for better cooperation between financial institutions and energy companies in order to implement large-scale projects related to Oman Vision 2040. Sohar International outlined its role in financing and advising projects related to energy security, economic diversification and sustainability, adding that stronger partnerships, innovation and private-sector investment would be key to building a resilient energy sector.

Abdulwahid Al Murshidi, Chief Executive Officer of Sohar International, said the bank saw its role extending beyond banking, positioning itself as an enabler of growth in strategic sectors. He said the energy sector was central to Oman’s future and that platforms such as the symposium aimed to drive dialogue, mobilise investment and build the partnerships needed to establish Oman as a globally competitive energy hub.

Discussions also covered opportunities for capital deployment in renewables, gas, hydrogen and energy infrastructure, along with the challenges and policy frameworks required to accelerate the energy transition.

Mohammed Al Naabi, Chief Executive Officer of the Oman Energy Association, said the partnership with Sohar International reflected a shared commitment to advancing the sector, adding that strong collaboration between industry and finance was essential to unlock investment and support Oman’s economic diversification goals under Vision 2040.
